Discover Your Self

A Gentle Guide to the Chakra System

Created by Karla Maree

Healing is the gentle process of becoming more whole. It can mean tending to what hurts, restoring connection within yourself, and learning to meet your body, emotions and spirit with care.

In Sanskrit, the word “chakra” means wheel or disc. In yogic and spiritual traditions, chakras are understood as centres of life-force energy within the body. They offer a symbolic way to explore our emotions, thoughts, inner knowing and relationship with the world around us. As humans, we are constantly responding to the energy around us. We may feel expanded, settled, tense or depleted. Chakra work invites us to notice those shifts and gently reconnect with our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.

Our chakras offer a symbolic link between mind, body and spirit—what we may not be able to see, but can often feel. Each centre reflects part of the human experience, from safety and pleasure to love, confidence, communication and connection. Attuning to ourselves can become an intimate act of self-love.

In yoga and other spiritual traditions, chakras are described as spinning centres of energy within the body. Each chakra is associated with a particular area of life and level of consciousness. Gently connecting with these themes can help us notice our patterns, understand our needs and choose what feels more supportive.

This guide offers a spiritual framework for personal reflection. It does not diagnose, prevent or treat medical or mental-health conditions. Please seek qualified professional support for health concerns.
